Participation in Events – Feb and Mar 2018

I would like to apologize for not updating the blog for a while. I have participated in the Bahrain International Garden Show 2018, and in the 6th Annual Career Forum that is held by Bahrain Polytechnic, and thereby most of my time was gone into preparing for those events. In this brief blog post, I will share with you updates regarding my experience there.

Bahrain International Garden Show 2018

This is a yearly event that is held in Bahrain and mainly has two zones; commercial zone and awareness zone. Bahrain Polytechnic, along with other educational institutions participate yearly in the awareness zone from Feb 22nd to Feb 25th. This year, my Unmanned All-Terrain Vehicle (more info here) was picked to be the main project in the Polytechnic’s booth. The Polytechnic was kind enough to provide me with a large display area of 3 by 3 meters, which allowed me to demonstrate the newly installed plant monitoring system that was discussed in the previous blog posts (post 1, post 2, and post 3!).

I really enjoyed this experience. The amount of exposure that I got from this exhibition is great, because you get to interact with people from different backgrounds. To some people, the technical aspects of the systems are not as important as the agricultural part, and how the vehicle would affect the environment. However, some people went so deep with me to the technical details of the thing, which was nice! Dealing with different people is a significant mental challenge, because you can never predict what the other individuals would ask next, but it was fun to try guessing anyhow!

Impact of Automation and Robots on the Future of Employment

This is the title of the 6th Annual Career Forum, that was held by Bahrain Polytechnic in March 14th and 15th. The even consisted of some keynote speeches, back to back workshops, and a small project exhibition. I was invited by the polytechnic to participate in the project exhibition, with the UATV project.

This was a different experience when compared to the BIGS, because the audience that came to the exhibition were more into this field. Most of them had an academic background, and were interested in exploring the current research progress in Bahrain in the robotics and automation field. Dealing with the audience was interesting, and some tutors were interested in applying some of the ideas on an educational scheme.

Special thanks goes to the Marketing, Career and Employment Center, and the Engineering School in Bahrain Polytechnic for nominating me and providing the necessary support during the mentioned events.

That’s all for today! Will see you soon hopefully for further updates.
